To create a set of icons for Product and Service Innovation Toolkit.
(Completed in September 2011)
Software development today is complicated. While historically it is possible that older generations of simpler software may have been developed by one individual, software development nowadays typically requires teams of developers, sometimes co-located or increasingly, in different geographic locations. The objective is to achieve efficiency throughout the various stages of the software development process which will avoid high levels of rework, quality control issues, higher costs and more time spent on administration and time reporting functions than on development.

I was assigned to develop three icons which best depict the point-of-view. These icons are then applied to a series of items which include, Door Opener email template and a set of eNurture emails.

Icon Design 1
Reduce Complexity

The concentric squares represent the convergence of diverse capabilities, resources, tools and widely distributed software developer teams. Decreasing in size, they also allude to a significant reduction in complexities. At the core of this transformation is IBM Rational Team Concert Developer for Workgroups (shown here as the inner square).

Icon Design 2
Improve Performance

The colourful squares represent the diverse teams, as they collaborate and share their expertise
to build better software—in a dynamic and conducive environment. With one side ajar, this flexible environment is opened to various tools and platforms such as Agile, formal and hybrid.

Icon Design 3
Lower Costs

The colourful lines illustrate the various stages of software development. The downward arrows,
positioned at different points in the lines, depict how potential cost-savings can be achieved in
a variety of areas.
